I haven’t posted much of anything on my blog lately, especially not anything technology-related. Shame on me. I’m just too enamored with my son, Benjamin, for the time being.
A few weeks ago, his Yiayia and Aunt came over to watch him while Michelle and I went out to celebrate Rae’s 30th birthday.
We often come home and find out that a blast had been had and that there is photo evidence!!!
See for yourself!!
You can see the rest of the fun by clicking any of those photos.
I can’t believe you’ve already been here for 2 years!!! You’ve completely changed my life, all for the better. I look forward to you, year after year, and I’m even looking forward to how amazing you’re going to be as a big brother!
I am sitting here, working at a large university, thinking about the tragedy that took place 2 days ago in Blacksburg, VA. How horrendous. We’re just never going to be safe, no matter where we work. It’s impossible to prevent random acts of violence from happening. Take away legal guns, and that lunatic would have found one on his own or found some other means of violence to unleash. Could his insanity and anger been identified and prevented due to his strange and hateful writings? Sure, but why can’t that guy just write fiction? I’m not condoning folks writing some F’d up stuff, I’m just saying… it’s easy to look BACK and say you could have done this or that…at the end of the day, it was random.
I am trying a new service that Eric showed me today. You can tie a bunch of different services to an IM account, which acts like a robot, allowing you to edit things like your blog, Google Calendar, Basecamp, etc. You can find more information at www.imified.com.
My aunt Koko (Angeliki) passed away at 3AM EST. She was my mom’s only sister and was such a nice and loving woman. She was always making jokes and full of laughter. She spent the last few years of her life taking care of my grandma, who passed away on June 22, 2005.
My aunt always took care of me/us when we visited Greece w/o my parents being there.
My name is Peter Filias, and I’m a geek. I love technology. I love enabling family and friends with technology when I know it will improve their lives or their business. It’s that simple. My philosophy is no-frills. Just talk to me about it.
I’m heading to Montana tomorrow…I can’t wait. I haven’t gone out West to go snowboarding since 2004. I sure hope I remember how to do it.
I can’t wait for Jon to get here in Vegas. He’s coming for 1 night and then heading up to Montana where we’re getting together with our friends from MTU. Should make for a very fun weekend!
Vegas has been fun, but I’ve been keeping it pretty conservative after losing a bunch of money the first night I was here. I won it back and then some the next day, but haven’t gambled since. The conference I’m at is great…I’m gathering some great information to take back to work with me.
This weekend, we looked over and saw Benjamin standing in my shoes! It’s so much fun to see Benjamin exploring and trying to do things like mommy and daddy (although, he tends to do more of what Daddy is doing, naturally, and thankfully!).
I can’t believe this, and I even told my dad that I never dreamed he’d live this long. Today marks the 12th anniversary of my dad getting a new heart! He’s 74 years old and still kicking!
I can’t stress how thankful we all are that he’s around to see grandchildren: 2 now and 1 on the way from Dino and Danielle! Life is grand, a bit confusing at times, but definitely grand when you look at all the ups and downs folks go through.
I’ll never forget the night of the 21st of February, 1995, when my brother called me up at my buddy Dave’s house (Pepe). I was hung over, feeling like dying…and the phone rings with Dino on the other end, telling me they found a guy with a heart for dad. I think the call came at about 4-5am…it definitely woke me up with enough time to go to the Dean of Students, Martha Janners, and ask for an incomplete in my circuits class which I was going to fail anyway. She granted my wish and I quickly found a ride to Michigan State, thanks Aaron, where Un-ho picked me up and drove me to Ann Arbor. Just as I got to the hospital, my dad woke up. It was amazing. We had to wear masks and gloves and be extremly quiet in the cardiothoracic unit where he was. When my dad saw me, he had tears in his eyes. Typing this is making me have tears in my eyes. We found out that the donor was able to save three lives that day…God bless him and his family!
I’ll never forget that day and I’ll live with the permanent effect that has had on our family (an awesome effect)!
That is what Benjamin said last night and it BLEW US AWAY! He’s been on a verbal tear the last few weeks and we’re having so much fun with him, we can’t stand it!
